‘Where is Boris’ hashtag highlights prime minister’s absence during coronavirus

As First Minister Nicola Sturgeon released a plan for easing Scotland safely out of lockdown today, the hashtag #ThankYouNicola began trending as people expressed their appreciation for the First Minister and her handling of the pandemic.

Meanwhile the #WhereIsBoris tag, referring to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s continued absence from daily press briefings, meetings, and other essential elements of managing the pandemic is still going strong, after yet another daily prime ministerial briefing was headed by someone else.

Though the weeks-old tag is full of hilarious political satire it highlights a wider problem, that the British government’s response to the pandemic is widely seen as inadequate and the prime minister especially appears to be shirking his responsibilities.

People are contrasting the two tags, and the two government’s divergent handling of the pandemic.
