President Donald Trump became the first U.S. president to ever be impeached twice, after the House of Representatives voted today on impeachment for his role in the Capitol riot.

Trump was previously impeached for attempting to use a foreign power to meddle in the 2020 election, with his efforts to get Ukraine to dig up dirt on President-elect Joe Biden.

The House reached the necessary votes to impeach Trump on Wednesday afternoon, with 10 Republicans breaking with their party to vote to impeach, including Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.). The final vote was 232 to 197.

The House fast-tracked impeachment of the president after his supporters stormed the Capitol after a rally to protest the election results. Trump spent months whipping his supporters into a frenzy, believing the election to be stolen from him.

Five people died in the riot, including one Capitol Police officer, an act of sedition against the government unseen since the Civil War.

It is doubtful the Senate will take up the impeachment prior to Trump leaving office on Wednesday, when Biden is inaugurated.
