Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) is clearly not a fan of the progressive idea of “healthcare for all.”
So much so that the Kentucky member of the House of Representatives decided to vent his frustration on Twitter on Thursday morning, asking whether “#FoodStampsForAll” was the next thing people would want to hear their lawmakers talk about.
As Massie quickly found out, there are a lot of people who are very much into that idea.
“How long until someone runs on the platform of #FoodStampsForAll ? If healthcare is a right, is food as well?” the representative wrote.

If healthcare is a right, is food as well?
Massie’s tweet certainly captured some attention on Twitter. As of Thursday afternoon, the tweet had nearly 8,000 replies compared to just 568 retweets and 2,700 likes.
Although the massive response to the tweet may not have been what Massie had in mind. An overwhelming amount of responses to the tweet came from people who thought food was, in fact, something people should have access to.
I mean, I'd be fine with no one in the United States, the richest and most powerful country in the world, where we throw away 40% of our food, ever being in danger of starving, so https://t.co/QBVLkNw3ZX— John Scalzi (@scalzi) November 29, 2018

OMG, can you imagine? A world where nobody starves? Think of the lost potential profit. https://t.co/SlEBV4cq34— Gavin Deichen (@gdeichen) November 29, 2018
The massive push back in the opposite direction Massie may have wanted is reminiscent of when Fox News used a graphic of “radical new Democratic ideas” including free college for all, free healthcare for all, and a green New Deal–only to be met with thousands of people who very much wanted those things.
