Never miss an important moment again.

Cruising headlong through a Netflix marathon is something we all enjoy, but when you doze off halfway through the most pivotal episode in a series, it can be detrimental to your streaming experience. Netflix has a solution, and you wear it on your feet.

Furthering its mission to create a whole bunch of quirky high-tech tools to optimize your Netflix experience, the company is introducing Netflix socks. Yes, socks.

“Netflix socks detect when you’ve dozed off and send a signal to your TV, automatically pausing your show,” the company explains. “Never again will you binge-watch yourself to sleep, only to wake up two seasons later wondering what happened.”

The key to the cozy wearables is a rather complex circuit that includes an accelerometer, LED light, and Arduino controller, battery, and an infrared LED to send signals to your TV. When worn, the socks detect how awake you are based on the movements. If the hardware detects you’ve gone quiet for too long, it sends a remote command to your TV to pause your Netflix stream so you don’t miss anything important.

Unfortunately for last-second holiday gift shoppers, you can’t actually buy the Netflix smart socks. Instead, the company has provided an extremely detailed and in-depth how-to guide so you can do it yourself.
