It’s tough being Milo Yiannopoulos on the internet these days. He’s already been banned from Twitter, lost jobs at both Breitbart and the Daily Caller, had his attempts at “jokes” taken off Instagram, and been roasted again and again by the internet for everything from being his own lawyer to getting chased out of a bar.
But his newest venture onto Patreon sets a record: He was banned within 24 hours of setting up a campaign.
Patreon has a policy against hosting users associated with “hate groups,” and while Splinter reported Wednesday that Yiannopoulos was booted for his connection with the far-right group the Proud Boys, there’s a whole slew of people that the policy could apply to, given the company he keeps.
Yiannopoulos was working on funding a “weekly late-night TV talk show” according to the Verge, and Patreon backers would have anticipated key rewards like “elite-tier” coffee cups, “free Milo ringtones,” and a call from Yiannopoulos on your birthday. Those dedicated enough to fork over $750 would even earn a yearly dinner with the right-wing pundit wherever their little heart desired.
Given that Yiannopoulous reportedly owes millions in debt due to his many lost jobs, legal troubles, and a bungled book deal, the likelihood of this project and rewards ever coming to fruition has to be taken with a grain of salt. Best not wait at the phone for that birthday call.
