A new initiative from Indiegogo aims to make it easier than ever to connect people in need with funds over its crowdsourcing platform. The service, called Indiegogo Life, is specifically targeted at campaigns centered around individuals. Indiegogo Life’s list of eligible causes includes medical needs, emergencies, memorials, pets/animals, volunteer efforts, and education.

Causes falling under these categories will be exempt from the 4 percent or 9 percent fees charged for all Indiegogo campaigns. That makes a pretty broad swath of future campaigns totally fee-free on the Indiegogo side, though processing fees from third parties may still apply. It’s worth noting that crowdfunding efforts involving sports, faith, and “celebrations” also fall under the new fee-free umbrella, though it’s not immediately clear how and if Indiegogo will prevent potential abuses of the platform.

Indiegogo Life further smooths out the crowdfunding process by offering a simplified eight-step setup and one-on-one customer support to help campaigns hit the ground running.

“Over the last six years, we’ve witnessed the financial implications that are often associated with the biggest challenges and milestones in people’s lives,” said Indiegogo Chief Development Officer Danae Ringelmann. “With Indiegogo Life, we’re delivering the necessary tools for families, friends, and even complete strangers around the world, to connect and support one another at the most critical times.”
