Losing control of a pricey drone is a nightmare scenario for any amateur flight enthusiast. As it turns out, rescuing a stranded drone is made much easier by having a second, larger drone that is capable of making an epic liberation mission.

As YouTuber Harrisen Howes discovered, letting a drunk friend pilot an aerial vehicle is not advisable, and he soon found his beloved Syma X5C drone stranded on top of his neighbor’s roof. The incapacitated quadcopter sat in limbo for two months before Howes, with his new, much more powerful—and more expensive—DJI Phantom 3 drone, took to the skies in a daring rescue attempt.

Armed with nothing more than a homemade hook system built from coat hangers, the Phantom swooped in, snatched the disabled drone, and safely directed it back into its owner’s waiting arms.
