Has the Internet felt more stressful and outrageous than normal lately? Blame Election 2016 and its death grip on the media.
It seems like every hour a new Donald Trump gaffe, Hillary Clinton email dump, or questionable electoral forecast hits the news cycle. Perhaps the Republican front-runner has threatened to deport a new group of people, defund a long-standing government program, or hurled a third-grader insult at one of his political opponents. The rest of the Republican field ranges from “treading water” to a man reportedly so unlikable that Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) joked you could get away with his murder on the Senate floor.
Or maybe it’s the Democrats who have you in a tizzy? There’s Clinton, who’s in the lead when it comes to delegates and superdelegates and campaign funds and Twitter followers. Yet it never seems like she’s winning enough. There’s Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who most pundits agree still has no chance, even though his Michigan this week win was the biggest upset victory since Gary Hart.
And don’t even get us started on the pundits.
Election 2016 is a big, hot mess, and there is no way to fix it. But fortunately, there is a way to fix what the election has done to the Internet. Google Chrome‘s Web store has a great selection of Election 2016 extensions that can undo the damage of the past several months of non-stop horse-race coverage. Block any mention of the junior senator from Vermont, or real estate scion turned former host of The Apprentice, or the former secretary or state. There’s even an extension that can scour any mention of Election 2016 from the interwebs all together.
For the sake of your health, for the sake of the country, let’s all take a break from Election 2016. (Unless you are a member of the media like we are, then you have no choice.)
Finally, a non-partisan Chrome extension that replaces any mention of a presidential candidate with a great big poop emoji.
Those who have completely abandoned faith in our electoral process will surely enjoy the visual metaphor made possible by Politicians to Poop, which alters the day’s most hard-hitting political headlines to focus on smiling piles of excrement. And fans of poop emoji will enjoy this browser extension as well.
3) I Haven’t Got Time for The ‘Paign
Do you sometimes wish you could turn off the election all together? This browser plugin works like a snooze button for American politics, which you can set to turn off at a desired time.
Wiping all trace of Hillary Clinton from the Internet is no small feat. No other 2016 presidential candidate has been in the news cycle for longer. Luckily, this handy browser add-on makes it possible.
There are plenty of Donald Trump Chrome extensions that wipe the Republican front-runner from Facebook, Twitter, or from the Internet all together. But what’s the fun in that? You’d be avoiding easily the most entertaining presidential candidate we’ve come across in years.
And chances are that you have your own NSFW nickname for Trump that could make reading those Trump headlines less infuriating. With the De-Trumper extension, you can replace Trump with a term of your choosing.
Do you ever wish the world of Election 2016 could transform into the world of Harry Potter? No? Well, you should try it. This Hogwarts Invasion Chrome extension will replace references to the 2016 election with characters from J.K. Rowling‘s famed book series.
The end result is almost more entertaining than reality.
