After self-isolating due to positive coronavirus test results, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been admitted to the hospital for symptoms of COVID-19, according to the Guardian.

Johnson has been displaying symptoms, such as high fever, for most of his 10-day quarantine, the Guardian reports. Johnson announced that he had tested positive on March 27, and he intended to leave quarantine on April 10.

Previously, Johnson had been open about ignoring social distancing guidelines, particularly about shaking the hands of coronavirus patients, according to Newsweek.

“I was at a hospital the other night where I think there were a few coronavirus patients, and I shook hands with everybody, you will be pleased to know, and I continue to shake hands,” Newsweek quoted Johnson at a news conference in early March.

The news of Johnson’s deterioration has sparked a couple of memes.

“Sending thoughts and prayers to Boris Johnson’s indeterminate number of children he never sees,” Twitter user @pixelatedboat wrote.

Others are pointing out that hospital admission as a “precautionary step” is either overkill or too late.

“He wouldn’t be hospitalized for this unless it was serious,” Twitter user @Elpenor_Dignam wrote.
