Animated GIFs bring Calvin and Hobbes to life

Publishers can pop the toxic media bubble by embracing remote workers
The media can only improve if we stop requiring journalists to live in major cities and expand into that sea of red America.

Here are the 10 best GIFs of the beloved comic from one anonymous Tumblr animator.

In 1989 Calvin and Hobbes creator Bill Watterson entertained the possibility of animating his beloved comic.

“Animation is an art all its own. If you look at the old cartoons by Tex Avery and Chuck Jones, you’ll see that there are a lot of things single drawings just can’t do,” Watterson told The Comics Journal in an interview. “I really can’t decide if I ever want to see Calvin and Hobbes animated.

“I know I’d enjoy working with the visual opportunities animation offers, but you change the world you’ve created when you change the medium in which it’s presented.”

That interview proved to be a tease, with Watterson never acting on his impulses.

Now 23 years later, one anonymous Tumblr user has brought Calvin and his stuffed tiger to life with GIFs. Over the last two months, Calvin and Hobbes GIFs has posted 30 stunning animations of Calvin being thrown out of the house, Hobbes hiding in the washing machine, and the duo dancing to their favorite song.

Here are the 10 best GIFs so far.
