Kamala Khan, one of the most popular new Marvel characters of the past decade, may soon receive a live-action adaptation.

While promoting her new movie Late Night, writer/actress Mindy Kaling confirmed that she’d spoken to Marvel Studios about adapting Ms. Marvel. “I think the people I’ve spoken to Marvel about it are so excited about the character and I think that they’re trying to figure out what to do with it,” she told MTV News. “I told them I would help in any way because I truly love her.”

Kaling steered clear of making a definitive statement about working on Ms. Marvel herself, but indicated that Marvel is considering making one in general.

Kamala Khan has appeared in animated shows and Marvel video games, but a live-action version would be a much bigger deal. Fans were already speculating about a Ms. Marvel spinoff franchise from Captain Marvel (kind of like how Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was introduced in Captain America: Civil War), with producer Kevin Feige teasing the idea last year. But as Kaling points out, the Disney+ streaming service also creates more opportunities for TV adaptations.

In the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, Marvel has kept surprisingly quiet about future plans. That’s because Phase 3 of the MCU technically doesn’t end until Spider-Man: Far From Home comes out next month. Phase 4 will include sequels for Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange, along with Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and The Eternals, but there could still be room for a Ms. Marvel movie there too.
