For the first time since 1949, the PGA Championship, one of professional golf’s four major tournaments, will be played in May. The 2019 edition, which takes place at the Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale, New York, from May 16-19, moves from its long-time August spot on the PGA Tour calendar to mid-spring, meaning the event will be held barely a month after the Masters.
Of course, this isn’t an issue for golf enthusiasts. The tournament will once again bring together one of the most credentialed fields in the sport, giving fans a chance to see the world’s best golfers vie to add a major notch to their career résumés. Best of all, for fans who can’t schlep out to Long Island to catch the action, watching the 2019 PGA Championship from home is easy.

What is the PGA Championship?
The PGA Championship is one of professional golf’s four designated major tournaments, alongside the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship (a.k.a. the British Open). Of those events, it’s the only one that features a fully professionalized field of golfers, as the three others allow a limited amount of amateurs to compete.
Golfers compete for the Wanamaker Trophy, money, and a large number of points in the FedEx Cup competition (the PGA Tour’s official tracking of the most successful player throughout the regular season), but the most important prize is intangible: It’s the career marker that winning a PGA major bestows upon a golfer, as performance in these vaunted competitions ultimately defines a golfer’s legacy.
Since 1972, the PGA Championship has been held in August, making it the final major of the year. However, the reintroduction of golf to the Olympics in 2016 convinced the PGA of America to move the tournament to earlier in the year.
PGA championship TV coverage: What channel is it on?
TNT and CBS will air the 2019 PGA Championship. TNT will handle broadcasting the first and second rounds in their entirety as well as early-round coverage for the third and fourth rounds. TNT’s coverage will begin at 1pm ET for both the first and second rounds, concluding at 7pm ET for the first round and 7:30pm ET for the second round. The network’s third and fourth round broadcasting will begin at 11am ET and end at 2pm ET.
CBS will air the afternoon and early-evening coverage of the third round and the final round, beginning at 2pm ET and ending at 7pm ET on each day.
