For the first time since 1949, the PGA Championship, one of professional golf’s four major tournaments, will be played in May. The 2019 edition, which takes place at the Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale, New York, from May 16-19, moves from its long-time August spot on the PGA Tour calendar to mid-spring, meaning the event will be held barely a month after the Masters.

Of course, this isn’t an issue for golf enthusiasts. The tournament will once again bring together one of the most credentialed fields in the sport, giving fans a chance to see the world’s best golfers vie to add a major notch to their career résumés. Best of all, for fans who can’t schlep out to Long Island to catch the action, watching the 2019 PGA Championship from home is easy.

Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know about the 2019 PGA Championship, including the players, start time for each round, tee times, and how to watch online for free.

What is the PGA Championship?

The PGA Championship is one of professional golf’s four designated major tournaments, alongside the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship (a.k.a. the British Open). Of those events, it’s the only one that features a fully professionalized field of golfers, as the three others allow a limited amount of amateurs to compete.

Golfers compete for the Wanamaker Trophy, money, and a large number of points in the FedEx Cup competition (the PGA Tour’s official tracking of the most successful player throughout the regular season), but the most important prize is intangible: It’s the career marker that winning a PGA major bestows upon a golfer, as performance in these vaunted competitions ultimately defines a golfer’s legacy.

Since 1972, the PGA Championship has been held in August, making it the final major of the year. However, the reintroduction of golf to the Olympics in 2016 convinced the PGA of America to move the tournament to earlier in the year.

That package provides TNT and CBS, as well as ABC, FS1, FS2, NBC, and NBC Sports Network, the latter two channels featuring a bevy of golf-related coverage, including the Open Championship and the Ryder Cup. For the truly golf-obsessed, PlayStation Vue’s Core package, which is one step up from the Access plan, comes equipped with NBC Golf and many more specialized sports channels, like the SEC Network and NFL Network, for only $49.99 per month. Luckily, PlayStation Vue doesn’t hold subscribers to annual contracts, so dissatisfied Core users can always downgrade to Access to save a few more bucks throughout the year. (Here are all of the PlayStation Vue channels.)
