Facebook to reportedly testify before Senate about ‘censorship’

Officials from Facebook and other tech giants will testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee hearing next week over accusations of conservative censorship on the platforms, according to a new report.

On Wednesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on the Constitution is hosting a hearing titled “Stifling Free Speech: Technological Censorship and the Public Discourse.”

The subcommittee is chaired by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who has been a vocal critic of technology companies over what he believes is a bias.

The Hill reports that Facebook, Twitter, and Google are expected to send representatives to testify before the Senate subcommittee.

The hearing comes after Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) filed a lawsuit against Twitter, accusing the social media site of “shadow banning” conservative voices. Twitter has denied doing so.

Last April, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data breach.
