Dr. Dre’s daughter got into college, and like any modern and proud parent, the rap mogul on Saturday showed off on social media. He also couldn’t resist dissing the kids of privilege recently involved in a national admissions scandal.
“My daughter got accepted into USC all on her own. No jail time!!!” the artist, born Andre Young, wrote in an Instagram caption on a photo featuring his 18-year-old daughter, Truly Young, and her acceptance letter.
It was clearly shade aimed at rich parents who were recently busted for strong-arming their children into elite American universities. Most high-profile in the scandal are actors Lori Loughlin, Felicity Huffman, and Huffman’s husband William H. Macy. Loughlin, who starred as Aunt Becky on Full House, allegedly paid a fixer to get both daughters, Isabella and YouTuber star Olivia, into USC. They reportedly circumvented the admissions process and entered as members of the crew team—according to TMZ, both daughters took photos that made it look like they were rowers.
However, Dr. Dre deleted the Instagram this weekend. It’s unclear whether he felt it was a tacky move and he regretted it, or if it was because he was called out for also being a rich dad with a rich kid—one who donated $70 million to USC himself and has a building named after him on campus, according to the Daily Mail.
Truly’s Instagram Story likewise celebrated her acceptance letter, writing “all my hard work paid off. I’m going to film school.”
Social media call-outs notwithstanding, the 54-year-old Dr. Dre seems to have plenty of reasons to celebrate.
