Real Madrid vs. Sevilla: Why it matters
Things have gotten progressively worse for Real Madrid, and the three-time defending UCL winner has as many La Liga losses (six) in 19 games as the club had in all 38 games last season. And it’s not like the team is playing well, either. There isn’t a position on the field where Real Madrid has seen consistent, quality performances, and if you take off the jerseys you wouldn’t be able to recognize this squad from the one that beat current EPL leaders Liverpool in the UCL Final 3-1 in Kiev last May. Sevilla has every right to be considered the favorite coming into this game, although it’s only ahead of Real in the table based on goal difference. Real Madrid will probably not win this game, and if the club isn’t careful, the UCL champ may be in the Europa League next season.
