President Donald Trump recently lashed out at Twitter for seemingly making it difficult for people to find him, but a new report shows just how enamored the now-president became with the social media platform.
Politico spoke with Justin McConney, a former social media manager for the Trump Organization, about the president’s acceptance of Twitter and how it became his preferred form of social media.
Trump reportedly made McConney print out copies of his Twitter mentions, would use Sharpie pens to write out his responses, and would have the social media manager print out photos to show him before posting them online.
In 2012, McConney said, Trump began using the platform much like he does today, as a way to lash out at people he perceives are his enemies.
“George Will just hit me on TV. I have to hit back,” McConney recalled Trump saying, according to Politico. “Write this down and tweet it out immediately.”
McConney left the Trump Organization in 2017 and now works as a consultant.
While the president may use Twitter on a constant basis, several recent polls have shown that people don’t read his tweets that much anymore.
