In a rare glimmer of upbeat celebrity news, a new LeBron James-produced series is headed to YouTube Red, and it looks cute.
Best Shot is an eight-part docuseries about the competitive world of high school basketball. It’s hosted by retired NBA star Jay Williams, whose career was cut short by a 2003 motorcycle accident. After his recovery, Williams found success as a college basketball commentator and motivational speaker—which brings us to this YouTube partnership.
In the show, Williams mentors “an inner city high school basketball team” and teaches them life skills through his favorite sport. Just like Friday Night Lights takes teens playing football and turns it into emotional art, the trailer for Best Shot features boys cheering each other through pushup challenges and encouraging one another during dribbling drills, and you end up feeling uplifted:
The series will be directed by Michael John Warren, who also did Jay-Z’s documentary Fade to Black, Nicki Minaj’s My Time Now, and Drake’s Better Than Good Enough.
Best Shot is slated to hit YouTube Red in 2018.
