Be careful when you send mocking tweets.

In yet another edition of “Don’t mock somebody else’s FBI investigation in your tweets if your friend is also under FBI investigation,” we present this Oct. 29, 2016, tweet from Kellyanne Conway, a top adviser to President Donald Trump.

Conway, of course, was referring to the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email system in the leadup to the presidential election. But what we learned Monday from FBI Director James Comey’s testimony in front of the House Intelligence Committee was that Trump’s campaign is currently under FBI investigation for its possible ties to Russia.

“I have been authorized by the [Department of Justice] to confirm that the FBI… is investigating the Russian government’s attempts to interfere in the 2016 election,” Comey said Monday. “That includes any links between the Trump campaign. … This will also include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed.”

Not only that, but Comey said the investigation has been open since last July. That means Conway’s tweet emerged three months after the FBI investigation of Trump had already begun.

Later Monday, during his meeting with the White House media correspondents, here’s what Press Secretary Sean Spicer had to say about Comey’s revelation.

As for Conway’s reaction to Spicer’s reaction, she also was at the press gathering.

As of this writing, Conway hasn’t responded on Twitter to Comey, the FBI investigation, her old tweet, or Spicer’s seemingly ironic explanation. But she did take time to write this late Monday morning.
