There was a time when the music video for Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” would keep kids up at night. But last night, the band joined Jimmy Fallon and the Roots to play the metal classic with classroom instruments, replacing the song’s original sinister menace with recorders and no shortage of melodicas. It’s worth watching if only to see Lars Ulrich pinging his tiny cymbals together like one of those toy monkeys.
In another strange sign of the times, Metallica’s new album, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, and the rest of the band’s discography, will soon be available for streaming on Napster.
