Like Punxsutawney Phil emerging from his burrow to a gaggle of thirsty media members desperate for wisdom and direction, every few weeks Jon Stewart has been popping up on Stephen Colbert‘s The Late Show to remind reporters they haven’t lost it.

Last night, he gave every delirious journalist comforting words in his standard sarcastic fashion. But he also issued a much-needed kick in the ass.

The salve came when he offered definitive proof—Stewart said—that President Donald Trump lies all the time.

It comes in the form of Trump insisting he’s being honest. “Believe me,” the president will say, and you know it’s not true.

But he also told media members to get their shit together.

Perhaps, he says, they can spend this presidency practicing a hobby.

Like journalism.
