This dude really shouldn’t have given a monkey the finger

Some insults are universal.

You’d think it would be common sense not to antagonize an animal you encounter on the street—leashed or not. But some people forget that being a member of the human species doesn’t protect you from all the others.

Take, for example, this guy who was recently walking around Shimla, India. One of the (notoriously ill-tempered) Shimla monkeys who inhabit the area was rude to him, so he offered a typical primate response: He flipped the monkey off. But that only made matters much, much worse:

Reports about these monkeys—considered sacred by the Hindu religion—have seen them involved in stealing and handing out money to passersby, theft solved only by bribery, biting, and an attack that resulted in a woman’s death, so it’s safe to say that the intelligent creatures are… not exactly nice. Given that they encounter humans on a daily basis, it may be safe to say they’ve adapted—and it’s not a pretty sight.
