Don’t let anyone ever tell you cross country runing isn’t a contact sport.

Justin DeLuzio was competing in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional cross country meet when he was blindsided by a deer that ran onto the course, flipping it head over heels. It’s a nasty collision that left him with significant bruising.

Gwynedd Mercy Men’s Cross Country Kevin Clark reports that DeLuzio did, in fact, finish the race—with the help of a couple of his teammates.

“All three of these guys could have run significantly faster if this did not happen, but made sure their guy was fine,” Clark said. “Justin is doing OK, he’s just a little sore and bruised up. We were worried about his health for a while, but we’re proud to see him fight through this along with his teammates, get up and finish his last collegiate cross country race.”
