RedTube is consistently among the most-visited websites in the world, now the popular destination for free porn has been hacked. While RedTube announced on Wednesday via Twitter that the bug was fixed within hours of being reported, it happened at an emerging, frightening frontier for cybersecurity.

According to security blog Malwarebytes, the source of the hack is not commonplace malvertising but rather a malicious iframe placed directly in the source code of site and made invisible to the reader. The source code on RedTube’s main page was modified in order to redirect the reader to malicious URLs.

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s website was also hacked by cybercriminals this week, redirecting the culinary readers to an exploit kit.

These attacks were discovered by Malwarebytes. Senior Researcher Jérôme Segura said the hack was carefully done and hidden well.

By directing to an exploit kit hackers can steal personal information from users as well as install browser helper objects that spread pop-up ads. Some of these redirect to additional exploit pages where more malware infections await.

In an effort to prevent this type of attack Malwarebytes offers free anti-malware which can detect and remove threats from computers.
