Kickstarter campaign for an apparel line called Photochromia will make you think in a new way about how to put sunlight to good use with your daily outfits.

Photochromia, a collaboration between Print All Over Me and The Crated, is a UV-responsive clothing line that features prints that appear and disappear depending on the wearer’s exposure to ultraviolet light.

The line includes hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and backpacks. The patterns on each item also add a dash of science to the collection, displaying scientific concepts like Schrödinger’s cat.

“We believe that Photochromia is a small, but sure step towards reactive garments being integrated into our everyday lives,” Maddy Maxey, The Crated’s head of technology, wrote on the campaign page. “Even more so, we believe that collaboration within the design and technology world is essential and we hope to inspire future collaborations between NYC startups in the future. Let’s create a world full of enchanted objects rather than backlit screens.”

The project is asking for $12,000 to jump-start production of the apparel. The campaign has raised more than $9,800 with 13 days left.
