Self-parking cars might have a questionable safety record, but Nissan’s latest autonomous creation is a whole lot less perilous.
The Japanese carmaker has invented office chairs that park themselves, and it’s actually pretty darn cool.

Nissan built the undeniably smart office furniture to show off its super slick self-driving technology, packing a wealth of sensors and circuitry into each chair’s base, along with a battery pack and four small wheels.

The movement of each individual chair is tracked by cameras situated on the walls of the room, and each chair is connected to a Wi-Fi network that relays the commands. Once they know where to go, the chairs are capable of rotating in place, performing multiple turns, and docking themselves in their correct spots without colliding.
Unfortunately, the chairs were built specifically to show off Nissan’s impressive autonomous design skills, and there are no plans currently to bring these chairs to market, jaw-droppingly awesome as they may be.
