Between shopping for gifts and scheduling family dinners, the holiday season can get hectic. And trying to search for the best place to buy a Christmas tree, donate canned food to a holiday drive, or take the kids ice skating can take almost as much time as the errands themselves.

But one application wants to make it easy for you to find the best holiday events happening in your area, with testimonials from people you actually trust to tell you whether or not the mall Santa is worth waiting in line for.

Private social network Nextdoor is launching the “Holiday Cheer Map” to let people discover local events recommended by their neighbors. Nextdoor members can share the best places to see holiday lights, give back to a local fundraiser, pick up a Christmas tree, or check out neighborhood activities. It’s similar to the company’s crowdsourced “Treat Map,” that highlighted Halloween candy-stocked homes in October.

Anyone can see the Holiday Cheer Map in their area, but to find out more information about events and to add their own, people will have to be a Nextdoor member. Nextdoor is a social network built around neighborhoods and their residents, so only the people in a particular area can see what others share on the app.

If it’s simplicity that you’re looking for this holiday season, Nextdoor’s app, which already hosts 47,000 neighborhoods, will likely serve up great events suggested by neighbors that are simply around the corner. It’s available on Nextdoor.com and in Nextdoor’s mobile apps today.
