For those of us who rarely have time to paint our nails, there’s always those stick-on Sally Hansen manicures at your local drug store or beauty shop. They’re great; they don’t chip off and often come with intricate designs that mimic the pricey nail art you can get at the salon. But who knew that there’s a new type of manicure that allows you to enjoy augmented reality?

Metaverse Makeovers turns common nail paint jobs into captivating 3D images and effects. Based in Melbourne, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and the Web, the company promises to “[augment] your digital and physical selfie in real time.”

While Metaverse is constructing pop-up nail bars in various locations and streaming live demonstrations online, the company’s biggest draw is its one and only product: augmented reality manicures.

The idea is to use stick-on nails in lieu of nail polish. Though it’s unclear whether you can actually design your own nail stickers (the company website says they regularly partner with “artists” at their live demos, which could mean yes), you can definitely and should use the Metaverse Nails app to actually see and enjoy your nails’ 3D effects. It’s available for both Android and iOS users.

If you’re not quite sure if this is something you’d want to try, check out the video below or watch a livestream demo of the product on Feb. 15. The event will simultaneously include “performance installations” from nail bars in Shanghai, China, and Melbourne, where (online) visitors are invited to “create their own 3D bling” and learn how to pain nails in 4D.
