In an announcement that no one was expecting, guitar amplifier company Marshall has thrown its hat into the smartphone ring.
The black vinyl, gold-accented device is built for music lovers. It includes two front-facing speakers, because two is always better than one; dual microphones for higher quality recording; two headphone ports; a dedicated M button at the top of the phone for quick access to your music; microSD card support; and a gold, scrolling wheel for volume control. All of this is coupled with high-quality audio processing, a DJ app, and a low-latency input for some impromptu guitar jamming. The phone will also be bundled with Marshall’s own Mode in-ear headphones.

But all that means it won’t be sporting the latest and greatest hardware. The phone, titled London, will sit at 4.7” with a 720p display, 2GB of ram, 16GB of internal storage, an 8MP camera—all powered by a Snapdragon 410 processor.

Right now the phone is aiming to for an August release in Scandinavia, the Baltic States, and the U.K., and is priced at around $590. Quite expensive for a phone with such modest specifications. But this is a boutique device and could be worth the cost for some users. Although there’s no U.S. release date, Marshall does want to expand into other territories.
