“What if kids could build their own prosthesis according to their own needs while having fun?”

Answering this question led Carlos Arturo Torres Tovar of Umeå University in Sweden to build a prosthetic arm that’s compatible with Lego, allowing children with missing limbs to create their own new arms.

“IKO is a creative prosthetic system designed for children to explore and empower their creativity in a playful, social, and friendly way,” Tovar wrote. “What if kids could make their own prosthetics and have fun at the same time? Learning. Creating. Being kids.”

Tovar hopes to use his new creation to help some of the more than 150 million disabled children age 14 and younger.
