HoloLens demo brings holograms into your home

Holograms are coming, and they're pretty darn cool.

Microsoft’s futuristic HoloLens project was one of the stars of the show at this year’s Microsoft Build conference in San Francisco. A lengthy onstage demo teased the possibility of filling our lives with holograms, and that prospect is looking better and better.

A whole lot of eye candy was on display this time around, including a massive 3D globe that sat pleasantly in the middle of the demo apartment.

Microsoft also demonstrated the device’s nifty ability to take Windows 10 apps and pin them to the surroundings, making us dream of (or dread) the day when we’ll wake up to an actual wall full of Facebook notifications.

And for the entertainment buffs, HoloLens can make your HDTV obsolete by letting you tweak the size of any video and mount it anywhere. You can check out the full video of the demo below.

Unfortunately, there’s still no release timeline, price, or other details about the Hololens device, and given Windows 10’s impending release it’s probably safe to assume we won’t hear that information for at least a few more months yet.
