Following the news that a surprisingly large number of people on dating apps are married or in a relationship, dating app Hinge will begin publishing the relationship status of its users.
Hinge uses Facebook data to match you with friends who are already in your extended friendship network—friends of your Facebook friends. And thanks to Facebook providing a section for “relationship status,” it makes it easy for Hinge to scrape that data and make users more honest about their personal lives, starting with Hinge version 3.5.
A recent study purported to show that 42 percent of Tinder users are already in relationships. Hinge conducted its own internal study and found that 3.6 percent of its users are either married or in a relationship.
Hinge will now display “married,” “engaged,” or “in a relationship,” directly under your match’s name. If they are single, it won’t show any relationship status.

It’s a great move to weed out any sketchy people looking for some on the side from using its service. While determined users could find a way around Hinge’s new honesty policy, presumably, anyone who removes their relationship status from Facebook would face some serious questions from their partner.
