According to customer survey questions noticed by a Google+ user, Google may be testing the waters for a movie streaming service to rival Netflix.

With Netflix now accounting for 36.5 percent of Internet traffic during peak evening hours in North America, it’s no surprise that others are trying to get in on the action. Disney launched its own streaming site earlier this year, and now Google may be entering the field with a subscription movie service.

This rumor came to light with a screenshot of a Google Opinion Rewards survey question asking, “Do you have a Google monthly movie pass?”

As GeekWire points out, this could very well be a test question designed to catch people out. If you answer “Yes,” then you’re obviously lying or not paying attention to the survey, because there’s no such thing as a Google monthly movie pass. However, it’s entirely plausible that this question was slipped in by accident, and some kind of Google movie streaming service is on the way.

Given Google’s influential status in pretty much every aspect of popular Internet usage, it would not be surprising to hear it’s also moving in on the movie and TV streaming market. More people turn to online streaming every day, and while Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix are already hugely successful, Google is a big enough name that it could launch its own movie subscription service even now.
