It’s not just you—the Daily Dot official Twitter account is decidedly … scummier today.

In commemoration of our one year anniversary Thursday, we’ve invited everyone’s least favorite guy, Scumbag Steve, to sully our good name with bad manners and bad behavior.

Of course, since Scumbag Steve doesn’t really exist, we actually asked Blake Boston, a 22-year-old Bostonian with a healthy sense of humor about how he unintentionally became the world’s most iconic douchebag. Since discovering his meme status, Boston has seized the opportunity to build a career out of the Scumbag persona, shilling iced tea, becoming a hip-hop personality, and making his mother proud.

Before he got busy tearing up our Twitter, we sat down with Boston for a more civilized Q&A. Read it below, and learn how you might be able to own your own Scumbag hat soon.

Daily Dot: The Daily Dot first wrote about the Scumbag Steve meme about a year ago. How has the meme changed since then?

I don't think the meme itself has changed, but people have created more ways for Scumbag Steve to be a douchebag. Scumbag Steve is my alter ego, but Blake Boston is who I am most of the time. I think it would be fair to say that Blake Boston could be compared to Good Guy Greg but Scumbag Steve is always going to be Scumbag Steve .

DD: Could you update us on how Scumbag Thursdays are going? Any interesting reactions from fans?

Scumbag Thursdays are going fantastic! Over 2.5 million views since April, and thousands of free downloads have been given away. People are always interesting. People have said everything from, “My mom is a tomato,” to “I am the fat Mac Miller,” to “I love you and want to have your babies.” It is all funny though, because whether they love me or hate me, I feed on their reactions.

DD: Speaking of your mom, we also interviewed her this year. How is she doing? Will she be in any more of your videos soon or otherwise involved in Scumbag activities?

She is fantastic. I don't know if she'll appear in more videos yet, but she is a huge supporter of mine. She always checks for new developments and it is great for me to have family in my corner.

DD: How did the Brisk Iced Tea partnership go? Any new partnerships in the works?

Everyone I dealt with at Brisk was great. We bounced ideas off of each other and came up with a great ad to put out and help promote a great line of drinks. I also have been working very closely with Ripple Junction to create T-shirts and an official Scumbag Steve hat. Both should be hitting stores by fall.

DD: Speaking of which, you're the only person we know of who got a manager from being a meme. How will the Scumbag Steve persona shape your career in the near future?

Well, my manager and I really want to be able to entertain every group, every social class, and every type of person out there in the world. My dream has been to entertain people and put smiles on their faces and this has been a dream come true.
