Stephen Colbert is probably one of the funniest men alive, but it’s not his sense of humor people are celebrating today. It’s the size of his heart.

Colbert announced on Thursday that he would fund every existing grant request made by South Carolina public school teachers on the crowdfunding website DonorsChoose.org.

According to Greenville Online, that includes nearly 1,000 projects for more than 800 teachers at over 375 schools. The funding offered up by Colbert—in partnership with Share Fair Nation and ScanSource—totals $800,000.

Colbert, a South Carolina native, made the big announcement via livestream to a group of teachers and kids at Alexander Elementary School in Greenville.

Here’s the moment captured by USA Today:

In case you’re unaware, it’s Teacher Appreciation Week, which is a great opportunity to find a teacher who’s changed your life and return the favor.
