Whoever said math isn’t fun apparently didn’t’ watch the third and final presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney.
Between questions on America’s relationship with Israel and Iran’s atomic program, both candidates did their best to maneuver the conversation back to the budget. And for Romney, that involved promoting his website.
“Come on our website, you’ll look at how we get to a balanced budget within eight to 10 years. We do it by getting — by reducing spending in a whole series of programs,” said the former governor of Massachusetts.
Obama had visited Romney’s website and was not pleased.
“And you know, we’ve visited the website quite a bit. And it still doesn’t work,” Obama responded, eliciting some muffled chuckles from the crowd at Lynn University.
The laughs didn’t stop there.
About 40 minutes after Obama’s jab was made, the website mittromneybudget.com was up and running. The site features an all too familiar 404 page but instead of it reading “Site not found,” it has the following message:
The website is one of many well timed parodies, gag sites, and trending topics to pop up in the wake of Monday’s debate. One of the most popular was the Tumblr tag “horse and bayonets,” which went viral after Romney compared our current Navy to that of the early 1900s and said that he, unlike Obama, would “not cut our military budget by a trillion dollars.”
“You mention… that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916,” Obama responded. “Well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military has changed.”
