1 dead after Christmas Eve shooting at North Carolina mall

A shooting at a mall in Charlotte, North Carolina, has left one person dead on Christmas Eve.

A suspected shooter is believed to be the only fatality at the Northlake Mall, where around seven gunshots were heard, according to local reports. It’s not immediately clear whether police officers fired any of the shots.

Law enforcement officials told reporters that a conflict may have erupted between two groups of people just prior to the shooting.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, off-duty police officers were on the scene of the shooting. It is currently unclear whether one of these officers shot the armed individual.

At least three people were being treated by paramedics, including one with a leg injury and a woman who went into labor, according to WSOC TV. A third person was being treated for an apparent asthma attack.
