These days, it seems like every big game gets a collector’s edition, even if the public really doesn’t care enough to shell out the extra $60 to 100 for it. Indie games, meanwhile, have always been left out of the fanfare.
That could soon change, at least if Gamer’s Edition takes off.
Gamer’s Edition partners with indie developers to create custom collector sets for smaller titles. It’s similar to Kickstarter: an indie collector’s edition is proposed, and if enough people pre-order it within a certain time window, it goes into a limited production run and is sent to buyers.
The site currently offers collector’s editions for Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number and Papers, Please.
These sets include physical versions of the games, collectible art, cassette mixtapes, and other bits of in-game memorabilia brought to life.
Gamer’s Edition
There are a ton of awesome indie games out there that definitely deserve to get the collector’s-edition treatment. Once the campaigns for Hotline Miami and Papers, Please are over, the site will introduce two new games next month.
Sadly, at press time, the excellent Papers Please did not appear to have enough support to go into production. Because Gamer’s Edition is so new, it’s possible that interest is still out there but not enough people know about the service. Luckily, anyone can reach out and request that a game be brought back for another funding drive.
