YouTube just hit another milestone.

The video-sharing site now collects more than 3.5 billion videos hits a day, said Lucas Watson, who handles global sales for YouTube, at a conference in Monaco. This new figure represents a 500 million-view increase in the last eight months.

“This video platform has the potential to be a powerful thing,” Watson said.

This announcement comes after the online video giant introduced the impending arrival of two dozen professional channels sponsored by major media companies and celebrities.

Here are some other statistics on YouTube:

  • 70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the US.
  • YouTube is localized in 25 countries across 43 languages.
  • YouTube’s demographic is broad, 18-54 years old.
  • Users upload the equivalent of 240,000 full-length films every week.
  • 48 hours of video are uploaded every minute, resulting in nearly eight years of content uploaded every day.
