Auto manufacturer Toyota is adding Twitter to the new Corolla’s dashboard, meaning drivers will be able to tweet while behind the wheel.
You won’t be able to tell the world about your rad drive-thru latte while you’re on the road, though. While the car is moving, you’ll be limited to sending quick, pre-programmed messages.
Drive notes that the template tweets include messages like “I will arrive at [ETA] in [destination],” “I’m stuck in traffic in [location],” and “Road works in [location].” The dashboard, unveiled at the 2012 Paris motor show, will fill in the time and location blanks using navigation system information.
The Twitter function doesn’t have voice controls as yet, but Toyota’s considering the option. That said, the pre-programmed tweets will surely help drivers let their friends and bosses know where they are and if they’re running late without too much distraction.
We just hope, for their sake, that they don’t accidentally tweet from the golf course parking lot on a sick day.
