As Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow was leading his team to a stunning underdog victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers last night, he was setting records on Twitter.

The 24-year-old football player and devout Christian collected 9,420 tweets per second, setting a new record for an athlete. Tebow’s social media record wasn’t his only special achievement on the night. He also threw for 316 passing yards and averaged 31.6 yards per completion, reported the New England Sports Network. The number 316 has a special significance for Tebow, who wore Bible reference “John 3:16” under his eyes during the 2009 BCS Championship game.

Tebow is now in third place for the total tweets-per-second record. The first place spot is owned by the Japanese 1986 classic Castle in the Sky with 25,088 tweets per second about a month ago, followed by Beyonce’s surprise pregnancy announcement at the MTV Music Video Awards earlier this year with 8,868 tweets per second.
