Susan G. Komen for the Cure hacked

The breast cancer organization was hacked, apparently in retaliation for withdrawing funds from Planned Parenthood.

The United States’ most prominent breast cancer charity has been taking a beating from the Internet ever since it pulled funding from Planned Parenthood earlier this week. On Thursday morning, hackers landed a sucker punch.

Around 12:30 a.m. ET Thursday morning, the website for Susan G. Komen for the Cure redirected to a dummy site that looked exactly the same—except for a single sentence.

What once read, “Help us get 26.2 or 13.1 miles closer to a world without breast cancer” became, “Help us run over poor women on our way to the bank.” (The text was intended to promote a fundraising marathon run the charity plans).

The problem was quickly corrected, according to an Atlanta news report.

It’s unclear whether Komen’s decision has really hurt Planned Parenthood. According that organization, it’s seen a donation spike since the furor began—to the tune of $650,000 in under 24 hours.
