Who better to promote the annual mustache-growing fundraiser than Parks and Recreation's Ron Swanson himself?

Ambassador to the outdoors and connoisseur of fine meats Nick Offerman is adding “Movember spokesman” to his list of manly duties.

The educated know Offerman as the burly, mustachioed Ron Swanson from NBC’s Parks and Recreation, so it makes sense that he’s representing Movember. The month-long event—which takes place in November, naturally—encourages people to grow facial hair to raise money and awareness for men’s health issues, including prostate cancer.

In a two-minute video, Offerman explains why his own famous mustache may be the most interesting in the world. His finely groomed ‘stache didn’t sprout overnight, the usually pugnacious actor concedes. It took years of training.

He brought his mustache to Scotland where shepherds tamed its unruliness, traveled to Tibet where monks combed it, and spritzes cologne and whale oil on it daily. This all seems plausible, judging by the mustache’s impressive volume.

To replicate Offerman’s trademark mustache, he suggests his fellow men gain the trust of a dog, smell wood, and eat a raw onion (which, in the video, he did like a professional).

“This mustache,” said Offerman. “is a Movember mustache.”

With Offerman’s help, Movember 2012 may be able to top last year’s record of 1.9 million participants and $126 million raised.

Nick Offerman lets Reddit ask him (and Ron Swanson) anything
Nick Offerman and his most famous character, Parks and Recreation’s Ron Swanson, have a lot in common. Both are master craftsmen. They have identical mustaches. Swanson even has an IMDB page that looks suspiciously like Offerman's. But while Swanson is something of a luddite, his real-life counterpart braved the computer to let Reddit ask him anything.
