Journalist live-tweets deadly attack on hotel in Afghanistan

Last night, while most of Twitter was fixated on LeBron James’ long-awaited NBA Finals win, a much more dramatic conflict was being documented on the social network.

Around 8am local time, Mustafa Kazemi (@combatjourno), a journalist based in Afghanistan, became caught in a firefight between Afghan special forces and Taliban fighters outside a hotel near Kabul after it had been taken under siege by insurgents. Twenty people were killed in the attack.

Determined to get the story out at any costs, Kazemi and other journalists took to Twitter to share what they saw and heard in real time. Mashable has compiled some of the most harrowing tweets and pictures in the Storify below.
