ICM Registry lands the money shot with gay.xxx

In terms of Monopoly, Corbin Fisher just landed the Boardwalk with the URL gay.xxx.

Urban cities have red light districts. Strip clubs have champagne rooms. And as reported here last month, ICM Registry is auctioning off the .xxx domain and just sold its highest one yet.

The URL gay.xxx was sold yesterday to Corbin Fisher, a popular gay porn website, for a stiff price of $500,000, making it one of priciest web addresses ever sold. The half-million dollar price tag is the highest price ever paid for before a public launch, according to ICM.

Although gay.xxx isn’t live yet, no doubt it will bolster Corbin Fisher’s thriving video business.

“We have some innovative plans for making this the one-stop web destination for all things related to gay adult entertainment,” said Jason Gibson, CEO of Corbin Fisher in a press release.

In a hint of irony, gay blog Queerty noted that Corbin Fisher’s parent company, Liberty Media Holdings, was against selling the .xxx domain out of fear that porn sites would be universally blocked. (India has already blocked the .xxx domain.)

The address might not redirect to Corbin Fisher’s website, but rather Liberty Media might sell space on gay.xxx to other porn studios and make loads of money, writes Queerty.

Gay.xxx is the fifth most expensive URL sold this year and is the ninth .xxx domain ICM has sold, since .xxx was made available for purchase, according to ICM.
