Facebook not only made changes on your profile page without your permission; the company’s gone through your smartphone, too.

Users who have Apple’s new iOS 6 Facebook integration have started to notice that their family, friends, and coworkers’s email addresses were replaced with their @facebook.com email address while original email address information disappeared without warning, CNET reported.

Adobe employee Rachel Luxemburg ranted about the problem on her blog. She didn’t even know that there was an issue until a coworker pointed it out to her.

“And even worse, the emails are not actually in my Facebook messages, “ Luxemburg wrote. “I checked. They’ve vanished into the either.”

The default email issue on your Facebook profile was a minor problem with an easy fix. But with this new change on your smartphone, people may have an email list that was years in the making. And not only that, people are having trouble finding the messages that have been sent to their Facebook email.

Gizmodo reported that Facebook is aware of the problems, and a Facebook spokesperson told CNET that many of the issues people are having are due to user issues.

“Everything else goes to your Other folder. (If you click on Messages in your left hand navigation menu, you’ll see below it an Other folder that drops down.) That is likely where the messages are being sent from other people’s emails. Even if that person is friends with them on Facebook, if the friend doesn’t have that email on their Facebook account, the message could end up in the Other folder.”

Facebook’s statement does not address the disappearance of users’ emails, which begs the question: Who knows what people might have sent you in the past few days?
