As the death toll surpasses 3,900 following a massive earthquake measuring 7.9 in Nepal this weekend, stark images are revealing the vastness of the devastation.

A drone piloted by Kishor Rana, which he flew around Kathmandu, the country’s capital, took stock of what happened.

“We not only lost many lives and homes but we lost many pieces of our cultural heritage, our history,” Rana wrote. “These are the footages of all the ancient cultural heritage sites that were destroyed during the earthquake.”

International aid is struggling to reach Nepal due in no small part to the country’s mountainous terrain. The approaching monsoon season will soon make matters even more dire as roads will be washed out, and helicopters will be unable to reach outlying settlements.
