Whole Foods shamed once again for a totally unnecessary product

People were peeved about the peeled.

Previously on “Whole Foods Does Some Outrageously Bougie Shit,” the overpriced grocery stores were selling $6 asparagus water. Now Whole Foods has had to deal with some outrage over peeled oranges, because the skin of the citrus fruit is such a hassle that shoppers at the chain need some assistance in the removal to enjoy a tasty snack.

Nathalie Gordon tweeted out a picture of the fruit available for purchase at the oh-so-affordable price of $5.99/LB (REG $6.99/LB), which has racked up tons of likes and retweets on Twitter

Now, the whole concept of having to purchase your orange already peeled is already outrageous. But $6 a pound for oranges? These better be the best oranges I’ve ever freaking eaten even if they’ve had the extra plus of me not having to get my nails all grody from taking the peels off. And more importantly, someone also pointed out how this packaging made for excessive plastic usage and that this wasn’t exactly quite the whole food.

There was also some discussion about people who might not be able to physically peel an orange, but @StephanieBe points out that this is probably not the demo that the product is marketed to. Whole Foods is probably hoping to find someone lazy enough to buy their oranges already peeled. You know, the kind of people who like their water with some asparagus in it.

Whole Foods eventually chimed in, saying that this was a “mistake.” Suuuuuuure.

What’s next? Peeled grapes? Peeled bananas? Whatever it is, we’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for it. Just like their oranges.
