Since the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team failed to defend its championship in this past summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, it’ll have to face Mexico next month in a one-game playoff to determine which squad will land a berth in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The game will be played in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, but for those Mexican supporters who can’t find tickets, they might have to be content with watching the proceedings on TV Azteca. And boy, TV Azteca has the right idea to drum up its viewership.
Take Mexico’s favorite sport, add the intense rivalry between Mexico and the U.S, and top it off with a sprinkling of Donald Trump‘s xenophobia, and you’ve got a fantastic advertisement in the making.
Trump, of course, has a heinous favorability rating for Hispanic voters in this country—he clashed with Univision TV host Jorge Ramos at a press conference last month—and a member of Trump’s security team recently punched a Latino protester.
So yeah, it makes sense that our neighbors to the south might not like the potential Republican presidential nominee who said that illegal immigrants from Mexico are “rapists.”
