Tattoos are more commonplace than ever, but getting one is still a daunting prospect. You’re committing to having a piece of art on your body for the rest of your life, not to mention the money you’re laying down.

Artist Scott Campbell decided to help people out with the latter problem but amped up the risk involved in the former. He gave 23 lucky, brave recipients a free tattoo if they were willing to stick their arm through a hole in a fence and let him do whatever he wanted.

But we shouldn’t be surprised by the popularity of the project, which Campbell named “Whole Glory.” He’s one of the most popular tattoo artists in the country, having inked such high-profile clients as Robert Downey Jr., Heath Ledger, and Penelope Cruz.

The results of the project are impressive and include everything from skulls and roses to cartoon characters and abstract designs.

Some of the designs are goofy and fun, while others seem more serious. One thing they definitely aren’t is boring. We just hope that the recipients enjoy them as much as we did—after all, they’re stuck with them now.H/T BroBible | Screengrab via _MissAgentCooper/Flickr (CC BY ND 2.0)
