Picking up a cup of coffee with your name misspelled is the epitome of a first world problem. It’s possible that your name is just hard to spell, but if you’ve got a name that’s fairly common, chances are your barista just might be messing with you.
It’s a classic case of Schadenfreude with some benefits. They get to revel in your confusion and misery at having something like “Chris” spelled incorrectly, while you get an Instagram photo out of it. While you’re going viral, your barista puts some thrill into a more tedious aspect of the job. It’s the perfect trivial crime. Comedian Paul Gale elaborates:
